This is the First Veterans Day of the newly opened World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., which was dedicated May 29. It honors the sixteen million who served in the armed forces of the United States during World War II, the more than 400,000 who died, and the millions who supported the war effort from home. It is also very special because a Carnegie Mellon University graduate was responsible for this magnificent Memorial. Carnegie Mellon University ’s DC Chapter presents an informative tour by Raymond Kaskey. He is the principal artist of Memorial and owns and operates the studio responsible for all the bronze Sculpture at the National World War II Memorial. He will give a personal tour which highlights the construction of the monument.
